Tungsten Carbide (WC) is a hard compound made from tungsten and carbon. Also known as cemented carbide or hard metal, it's produced by mixing tungsten carbide powder with a metal binder such as cobalt or nickel.
It can be shaped, ground, and welded for many industrial uses - including cutting tools, molds, wear parts, and mechanical seals in the chemical, oil & gas, and marine industries.
Tungsten carbide is extremely hard, wear-resistant, heat-resistant, and corrosion-resistant.
In seals, it's used for rotating and stationary rings that prevent fluid leakage. The two main types are cobalt-bonded and nickel-bonded tungsten carbide.
